Udine

Udine is a city and commune in northeastern Italy, in the middle of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, between the Adriatic sea and the Alps (Alpi Carniche), less than 40 km from the Slovenian border. It is the historical capital of Friuli.

Fabro recounts a special memory from Our Lady of Grace (Madonna delle Grazie) in Udine:

“But my health, apart from the described situation, was a continuous drama, and I bear the marks of some even greater misfortunes on my body. The first that I remember was a general malaise with complete anorexia: I would refuse everything and would cry continuously. My mother, who was helped by a good cousin and by some other close relative, had no rest. It was decided to take me to the parish priest for a blessing, but in vain, and the parish priest sent me to the Capuchins of Udine, but to no avail—I would continue to cry and refuse both food and drink. The Guardian Father had the inspiration to send me to the Sanctuary—much-venerated in Friuli—of Our Lady of Grace, situated in front of the castle, above the gardens. Mom had hardly placed me on the altar of the pious image, when I immediately stopped crying and smiled broadly—I was cured. After finishing the devotions, they brought me to a near-by dairy and I avidly drank a bowl of milk. Our house was near the Napoleonic Way that leads from Codroipo to the Venetian fortress of Palmanova.”
